Top 10 Hidden Gems and Off-the-Beaten-Path Spots in Bali

Beyond the tourist trail, Bali hides extraordinary places known only to locals and seasoned travellers. Here are the island’s best-kept secrets.

1. Sidemen Valley

The Sidemen Valley in east Bali offers some of the most dramatic rice-terrace scenery on the island, framed by Mount Agung. Far fewer tourists venture here compared to Ubud.

2. Amed Village

A string of traditional fishing villages on Bali’s northeast coast, Amed is famous for black-sand beaches, excellent snorkelling, and the wreck of the USS Liberty at nearby Tulamben.

3. Munduk Village

Set in the misty highlands near twin lakes Tamblingan and Buyan, Munduk is a haven of clove plantations, coffee farms, waterfalls, and cool mountain air.

4. Lovina Beach

On Bali’s tranquil north coast, Lovina is famous for early morning dolphin-watching tours. The black-sand beaches and calm waters offer a complete contrast to the south.

5. Pura Lempuyang (Gates of Heaven)

The famous split gate framing Mount Agung has become iconic, but the full climb to the top of Lempuyang’s seven temples rewards with extraordinary panoramas and genuine spiritual atmosphere.

6. Bukit Campuhan

A lesser-known ridge walk near Ubud that offers views over the Wos River valley. Quiet, scenic, and free of the crowds found at its more famous neighbour.

7. Pasir Putih (White Sand Beach) – East Bali

Bali’s finest white-sand beach outside of the south, Pasir Putih near Candidasa remains relatively undeveloped. A small fleet of warung boats and clear water make it a dreamy escape.

8. Jatiluwih Panorama Road

Cycling or driving the back roads through Jatiluwih’s UNESCO rice terraces early in the morning, when mist hangs over the paddies and farmers are at work, is a truly magical experience.

9. Nyang Nyang Beach – Uluwatu

Accessed via a steep 45-minute hike down limestone cliffs, Nyang Nyang is one of Bali’s longest and least-visited beaches — pure white sand, clear water, and zero crowds.

10. Taman Ujung Water Palace

A lesser-visited companion to Tirta Gangga, Taman Ujung is a vast water palace complex on the east coast with ponds, bridges, and beautiful mountain views that few tourists discover.
